The small print

The short version: you're reading, and that's all that's happening. No analytics, no ads, no cookies, no comment widget, nothing loaded from anyone else. Nothing on the page reports your visit to anybody.

Things you might notice¶

• The O in the name up top is a serpent. It flicks its tongue when the page loads, and again if you hover over it. In some of the old Greek stories Ophion was a great serpent, so it seemed only fair.
• The two little buttons in the corner are yours to play with. One switches between light, dark, and whatever your device prefers. The other sets the text flush on both sides, like a book, or ragged on the right, like a letter. Your choice sticks, but only in this browser.
• Footnotes are marked with daggers — *, † and so on — the way books have done it for centuries. Click one to jump down, and the little arrow brings you back.

Keeping up¶

The RSS feed has a one-line summary of every note, so your reader will tell you when something new goes up. Click through for the full thing.

For the curious¶

It's a folder of text files, turned into plain web pages and set with more care than strictly necessary. That's genuinely all there is to it.
